Slotted angle bar, also commonly referred to as slotted angle iron, is a low carbon steel bar that has L-cross shaped section with two legs – equal or unequal and the angle would be 90 degree. The slot patterns on the slotted angle is designed to provide the maximum number of nut and bolt positions, so that all angles can be used in any combination. Slotted angle bars offer a strong and easily assembled angle framework that is easily bolted together and is best suited to applications where a made-to-measure structure is required. Cold-rolled slotted angle bars are usually galvanised or spray painted for added protection and longer shelf live. Due to its low cost, good weldability and certain mechanical strength, slotted angle bars are widely used in the construction industry. The unique pattern of horizontal and vertical slots in a slotted angle bar permits full flexibility. The design of the slotted angle bar allows it to be used as economical shelving, racks or electrical and mechanical supports.

Applications

Uses of slotted angle bar include building carts, ladders, cases, racks, shelving, partitions, benches, trolleys and light construction work.

Grades

Two of the common grades of slotted angle bars are EN10025 S275 and ASTM A36. EN10025 S275 is a popular mild steel grade utilized in various general engineering and structural applications. As a low carbon steel specifications, EN10025 S275 provides adequate strength with good machinability and can be welded with ease. Mild steel grade S275 is used widely in the construction industry as it has good weldability and machinability.

Mild steel grade ASTM A36 is another popular and widely used carbon structural steels, which is mild and hot rolled. Grade ASTM A36 steel’s strength, formability and excellent welding properties makes it suitable for different kinds of machining processes. With its superior mechanical properties, ASTM A36 is usually the base material for all general construction and industrial applications. Depending on the thickness and corrosion resistance of the alloy, ASTM A36 mild steel is versatile and can be used for a wide variety of applications.
