Information

Pipe fittings are piping components that help in pipe routing for directional changes, size changes and branch connections. They are made up of different materials like carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, iron, brass, PVC etc. Different pipe fittings serve different functions as per layout or process requirements. Common types of pipe fittings are piping elbows, piping reducers, tee connectors, olet connectors, unions, couplings, nipples, valves, flanges, adaptors, caps, plugs, bushings, crosses, etc and widely used in both the piping and plumbing industry.

Applications

Uses of pipe fittings include manufacturing, chemical, oil and gas, semiconductor, municipal, food industry, sanitation, construction, agriculture, energy and marine applications.

Grades

Two of the most utilized grades of pipe fittings are ASTM A234 and ASTM A403. ASTM A234 is the standard specification for pipe fittings of wrought carbon steel and alloy steel for moderate and high-temperature service. It covers steel fittings of seamless and welded types. There are two carbon steel grades: WPB and WPC, of which ASTM A234 WPB is mostly often used in pipeline industry. All the A234 WPB pipe fittings include the seamless A234 WPB pipe fittings which are made from the seamless steel pipes, and the welded pipe fittings which are made from ERW steel pipes. The A234 WPB butt-welding pipe fittings include elbows, bends, returns, tees, reducers, end caps, crosses, lap joint stub ends, nipples, flanges and couplings.

Grade ASTM A403 is another popular choice for stainless steel pipe fittings made up of forged and rolled austenitic stainless steel and widely used in engineering industry, energy conversion plants, etc. ASTM A403 WP304L is the most common stainless steel pipe fittings material. This austenitic steel gives excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking. The common products of ASTM A403 WP304L pipe fittings are elbows, tees, reducers, flanges, caps, cross. There are seamless and ERW A403 WP304L pipe fittings. The seamless A403 WP304L pipe fittings means the fittings are made from seamless steel pipes, ERW means the fittings are made from ERW steel pipes.
