Aluminium hollow sections, also known as aluminium box sections, are extruded hollow tubes with sharp edges. Aluminium hollow sections are categorized into three main types: rectangular hollow sections (RHS), square hollow sections (SHS) and circular hollow sections (CHS). Each type of hollow section has its own attributes and serves a specific purpose. Aluminium hollow section offers an ideal balance between strength, functionality and aesthetic appearance for a multitude of applications that require all three aspects. Grades

Two of the common grades of aluminium hollow sections are AA6061 and AA6063. Aluminium grade 6061 is one of the most widely used aluminium alloy for aluminium hollow sections or extrusions. AA6061 has superior strength and corrosion resistance properties with good machinability and can be easily anodised and bent to suit different needs. Commons uses for aluminium grade 6061 include transportation components, machinery, industrial equipment and consumer durables.

Aluminium alloy 6063 is another widely used medium strength alloy, which has generally good mechanical properties, is heat treatable and is readily suited to welding. Aluminium 6063 is therefore considered to have some of the best all-around extruding properties. AA6063 has a good surface finish, is corrosion-resistant and can be anodized. Its strength, as extruded, is somewhat higher than that of 3003 and is used in the fabrication of intricate extrusions.
