Grades

Two of the most commonly used grades of aluminium pipe alloys are 6061 and 6063. AA6061 is the most versatile of all heat-treatable aluminium pipe alloys, while maintaining most of the good qualities of aluminium. Pipes made from 6061 aluminium alloy are ideally suited in structural industries as the aluminium alloy is highly resistant to corrosion when exposed to environmental conditions. AA6061 can be welded and fabricated by many commonly used techniques and has good workability in the annealed condition. Aluminium pipe alloy 6061 is used in many different products and applications, which require strength and corrosion resistance.

AA6063 has a fairly low strength, but excellent corrosion resistance and a smoother surface, as compared to other aluminium alloys. Aluminium alloy 6063 are often used in applications that value aesthetics over strength. 6063 aluminium has good weldability and is easier to form than multipurpose 6061 aluminium. For aluminium pipes that require moderate strength, AA6063 can be heat treated to provide additional strength.
