Information

Aluminium Channels, also known as U Channels or C Channels, are general purpose extrusions that are widely used in both commercial and home applications. Aluminium channels have medium strength and excellent corrosion resistance making it suited for indoor and outdoor use. The U-shaped aluminium channel is lightweight and durable, making it the perfect choice for many applications, including structural framing, shop fitting, vehicle construction, furniture manufacture and other general fabrication uses.

Applications

Uses of aluminium channel include construction, marine, ornamental, architectural trim, framing, store fixtures, displays, glass and mirror projects, railings, elevators, woodworking projects.

Grades

Two of the most commonly used grades of aluminium channel alloys are 6061 and 6063. AA6061 is the most versatile of all heat-treatable aluminium channel alloys, while maintaining most of the good qualities of aluminium. It offers a range of good mechanical properties and superior corrosion resistance. It can be welded and fabricated by many commonly used techniques and has good workability in the annealed condition. As a result, AA6061 is used in several products and applications, which require strength and corrosion resistance.

AA6063 has a fairly low strength, but excellent corrosion resistance and a smoother surface, as compared to other aluminium alloys. 6063 aluminium has good weldability and is easier to form than multipurpose 6061 aluminium. For aluminium channels that require greater strength, AA6063 can be heat treated for increased strength.

Finishes

Finish	Description
Anodising	Protective aluminium oxide outer layer providing increased resistance to corrosion and wear.
Bright Dipping	Electro-brightening treatment to produce smooth surface with high lustre and “mirror” finish.
Brushed Finish	Distinctive appearance with uniform fine lines parallel to the brushing direction.

Mill Finish	Original nature of aluminium, where no chemical or mechanical finish is done on the surface.
Powder Coating	Durable film coating that can meet stringent performance criteria, offering a wide variety of colours.
Pretreatment	Etched or cleaned with an acidic or alkaline material before a pretreatment coating is applied. Applied coating enhances paint or powder adhesion and is corrosion resistant.
